Alicia Lyttle Discusses Internet Income Opportunities in Jamaica at Walmart Presentation

Alicia Lyttle

Speaking on the topic “The Cure for Unemployment in Developing Countries”, Alicia Lyttle was one of the main speakers at the Innovation Day event put on by Walmart, a Fortune 500 company, in late January, 2017. The renowned internet marketer highlighted the role one of her companies was playing in helping to tackle the unemployment problem in the island of Jamaica.

Lyttle, who is the CEO of Internet Income Jamaica, discussed with the audience how her company was helping a number of Jamaicans to earn an income by working online. She gave several examples, from a young college graduate who earns a solid part time income by building websites, to a voice actor, who bought her first car by freelancing her voice acting skills online.

In making her presentation, she highlighted the unemployment rate in Jamaica, which is currently about 3 times that of the United States. She also discussed how the high cost of living made it difficult for many Jamaicans to buy the things they needed. In addition, she pointed at data that showed the correlation between the sliding dollar over time and the subsequent increase in crime and violence.

Lyttle believes emerging technologies, which can be utilized via an internet connection and a PC, can be used to combat the problem in Jamaica and elsewhere. “With technology and people with a desire to improve their lives, we can and will make a difference,” said Lyttle during her presentation.

According to Lyttle, freelancing online is a viable option for people who can’t find jobs or don’t earn enough from their current employment. Among the platforms that she gave as examples that people could use to freelance their skills, included Fiverr.com and Upwork.com. She also noted that she and her sister, Lorette, had introduced the concept to people in other developing countries, such as Uganda and Botswana.

Alicia Lyttle’s presentation at the Walmart Technology event came as her company seeks to help more people earn a stable internet income from their skills. Internet Income Jamaica currently hosts monthly boot camps in Jamaica, which has trained hundreds of people to be successful freelancers.
