National Locksmith’s $1,000 Scholarship Video Contest for 2017 High School Seniors

Along with the new year, Mr. Rekey, America’s Largest Residential Locksmith®, kicks off a new college scholarship video contest to give high school seniors a chance to earn $1,000 toward an education at their university of choice.

Austin, TX. January 3, 2017-- In an effort to give back to high school seniors in the United States, Mr. Rekey Locksmith, a national locksmith company based in Austin, Texas, has decided to launch an annual college scholarship contest in which high school seniors will have the opportunity to win $1,000 toward the college or university of their choice. It is the company’s hope that, while the scholarship will only cover a modest portion of what students are required to pay, the contribution will make a positive impact in funding the winning student’s education and raise overall awareness about the importance of higher education.

A college education costs much more than it did twenty years ago and is also considered a requirement for a much broader range of professions, the company says. Something that was once considered a high honor and commendable achievement is now practically mandatory in order to find a well-paying job, and students are often left with a mountain of debt they will spend years or even decades paying off.

In 2015, College Board reported that tuition fees rose significantly faster than inflation, and the increase in cost was not matched by an equal increase in financial aid. They also revealed that the price of room and board has risen 18% faster than inflation over the last decade, leaving many students seeking a higher education facing difficult financial decisions.

To apply for the scholarship, students will be required to create a video submission detailing why they are applying for the scholarship and how obtaining a college degree will personally benefit their future. The videos and applications must be submitted by March 31, 2017 and the winner of the scholarship will be announced by April 30, 2017. Those eligible to apply include current high school seniors in the United States who are planning on attending college starting in the Fall of 2017.

The scholarship is fully sponsored by Mr. Rekey Locksmith, a full-service locksmith company that specializes in rekeying. Founded in 1995, the company now services more than 30 major cities across the country, making it America’s Largest Residential LocksmithⓇ.
